Ayelet Mosaffi Hutson Thrives at Work & Home. Here’s How She Does It!
No one ever promised that being a working parent would be a walk in the park. No one said it would be easy. But in all my years with Sanofi US, I’ve found that ours is a company committed to helping employees pursue their career ambitions to be successful working parents.
I’ve worked in HR at Sanofi US for most of my career. If not for our generous work/life benefits, I really might not be here today. In fact when my first son, Jonathan, was born 10 years ago, I seriously considered not working at all after my parental leave ended. But when Sanofi US let me return on our reduced work schedule for new parents, I jumped at the chance! I was sure I could make it work. Actually, it worked so well that I requested a permanent part-time schedule. The company generously agreed, and I was able to work part-time for four years.
Currently, I’m taking advantage of Telework, which allows me to work from home a few days a week. Since I live in New York City but am based in Bridgewater, New Jersey, that flexibility saves me hours of commuting time … precious time that I can spend with my family and on the work, itself. On those days when I work from home, I’m able to be with Jonathan and my younger son, Daniel, for breakfast and then put them on the school bus, myself. That might seem like a small thing, but it means a lot to me!
I’m sure I’m not alone. Every working parent knows that time is precious. Sometimes you think you just can’t keep up with it all. So with my two active boys, I’m grateful to be with a company that offers us time-saving benefits. For example when my son was sick, instead of taking him to the doctor, I used our telemedicine benefit. We video chatted with the doctor right from my phone! And here’s another real-life story of our benefits in action: during the busy holiday season, I used the free errand service from Sanofi US to return a gift with no hassle and no time lost.
Throughout my entire career, the company has been very supportive – not just of working parents like me, but of employees at all stages of life. Just recently, Sanofi US increased our Child Care Leave policy for new parents to eight weeks paid plus another eight weeks unpaid.
And in another aspect of life’s journey, the company enhanced our bereavement policy. Now it’s 10 days for the death of an immediate family member, and five days for non-immediate family members.
Overall I know where I stand. I feel lucky to work for a company that values its people as much as ours does and supports me, as a parent and employee, in so many ways through our many policies, programs and opportunities. I feel both motivated and able to be a strong contributor to the business, a fulfilled working parent and a loyal employee. Here at Sanofi US, I don’t have to choose!
