100 Years in Diabetes: Community, Science, and the People Behind the Work

Sanofi does not provide medical advice and this information is provided for educational purposes only. Your doctor is the best source of health information. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions about your health or treatment.
For more than 100 years, Sanofi has worked alongside people living with diabetes, supporting efforts to address the evolving needs of the type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) communities. During American Diabetes Month this November, we’re reminded that our commitment to diabetes is reflected not only in our history, but also in our ongoing work with patients, families, and communities.
More than 40 million people in the United States live with diabetes, including millions who remain undiagnosed — making continued education, screening, and access to care essential. That's a challenge we take seriously. And we know that meeting the moment requires more than any one effort — it takes community, science, and the people committed to driving it all forward.
This American Diabetes Month, here's how we’re bringing these pillars to life.
Voices of the Community
At Sanofi, leadership in diabetes means more than just developing medicines. It means understanding the day-to-day realities of patients and their families — and working with them to help address barriers to care.
Community members aren't simply the audience for our work — their lived experience is essential expertise. When you sit with a patient or a family and understand what they're navigating — the fear, the uncertainty, the system barriers — the purpose behind our mission becomes clear. Our role is to listen, to act where we can, and to work alongside the community to help address meaningful barriers.

Angie Bricco
Head of Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy, General Medicines
From disease education to access and affordability, our community work spans the full range of what it means to live with diabetes. We're working to support people from awareness of risk through diagnosis and ongoing care — so families have the information and resources they need to support informed conversations and decisions with their healthcare teams. As Angie notes, "we're committed to supporting continuity of care and working toward end-to-end solutions at a national and regional level — because T1D and T2D patients need a clear, supported path forward."
The Evolving Science
Research in diabetes has advanced rapidly, unlocking insights that are actively reshaping the trajectory of the disease.
From raising awareness of early T1D risk detection through autoantibody screening, to exploring how digital tools can support T2D management, we're working to equip patients with the resources they need to help make empowered decisions about their health. This is especially important as the paradigms in diabetes are shifting — from reactive diagnosis to proactive detection, from one-size-fits-all management to personalized care.
Our role is to stay ahead of that shift, to bring the latest science and insights to the communities we serve, and to ensure that patients and families have access to the education and support they need at every stage of their journey.

George Dickens
Head of US General Medicines, Medical
That shift doesn't happen overnight — but with every new insight, every expanded awareness effort, and every innovation in care, we're contributing to continued progress in diabetes care.
The People Behind the Work
Behind every program, partnership, and breakthrough is a team of Sanofians driving this mission forward. Across Sanofi, scientists, caregivers, advocates, and people living with diabetes themselves: our employee community has a deep personal connection to our mission and is driven to support the community they represent.
Through Employee Business Resource Groups, Sanofi team members are actively organizing events, sharing their personal stories, and fostering dialogue and connection across the organization— building a culture of connection and purpose that extends well beyond the workplace.
Our people are our greatest asset. A hundred years of leadership in diabetes doesn't happen without extraordinary people. We're proud to work alongside Sanofians who are deeply committed to this mission — and who understand that our work extends far beyond the office and into the communities where we live and work.

Anne Marie Dallaire
Head of Insulins & Established Products
The last hundred years have shown what's possible when community, science, and people come together. This American Diabetes Month, we're looking forward to continuing our momentum and building on our unwavering commitment to patients and their families —today and in the years ahead.
